Toronto committee endorses plan to build nearly 6,000 housing units

Toronto's housing committee has approved a $350 million plan to construct 6,000 new rental units citywide. The Rental Housing Supply Program will offer up to $260,000 per unit to expedite 18 affordable housing projects, with construction set to begin within 18 months. The program encourages public, private, and particularly non-profit and Indigenous-led developers. This initiative is part of a larger plan to build 65,000 rent-controlled homes, including affordable and market-rate units, by 2030.
